HOVER FOR DESIGN STATEMENT
Through is inspired from different elements of contemporary cleansing rituals. Several elements are expressed throughout the piece: micro vs. macro, contraction vs. expansion, and spaciousness vs. sparseness. With the piece breaking down into two main events, lighting created different tones to support the energy of each event. The first event existed within a ghostly and sparse space. Lighting used cool, low-angled light to sweep across the stage and hug the forms of the dancers. The second event countered the first with a grand and powerful tone entering the space. Lighting shifted away from the ghostly cool world to a warmer and temporal space with gritty and sharp texture covering the dancers.
